Once again the Percy Hounds have had a busy summer showing. Up to now we have shown at five small shows winning the group class at all five, along with several other tickets. Our unentered bitch Poet, walked by Annette Grey, won a strong class at the Morpeth Hound Show. We also had a very good day at the Jed Forest winning two classes along with four reserves, Spitfire coming Reserve Champion.
The first big hound show was The Great Yorkshire, we had a good start with Gamble coming third in the unentered dog hound class and Portman coming fourth.
We next had Portman and Pollock in the Old English unentered couple class which they went on to win.
The next Old English class was the stallion hound which our Spitfire won. After lunch we won the restricted unentered bitch hound class with Poet which was very good as this was open to all hounds. Poet was also part of the unentered couple along with her sister Poetry, they came second in the Old English unentered couple and fourth in the overall unentered couple. We were then second in the Old English brood bitch class with Poppy. Out of the four Old English classes we won two and came second in the other two, in doing so we won the Old English Championship and our Masters were presented with the Mary Furness Memorial Trophy.
Poet and Poetry as a couple at the Yorkshire Show
The second big hound show was at the Festival of Hunting in Peterborough. We had a good start with Gamble coming a good second inthe unentered dog hound class and Portman coming third. We then showed two hounds we have never shown before, Woolem and Wooperton (both walked by Alan Morris) who won the entered couple class.
We then had Joe Vickers favourite hound, Spitfire, in the stallion hound class. He won the class and went on to win the Old English Dog Hound Championship.
After a very good lunch made by Mrs McCarthy we had a good start with Poetry, walked by our blacksmith, Davey Willey winning the unentered bitch class beating her sister Poet who came second. We then came third in the entered bitch class with Linnet and Potion, both walked by Lynn Walker and then came third in the brood bitch class with Poppy, again walked by Lynn Walker.
It was a very good day ending up with one Championship, three firsts, two seconds and four thirds.
It was very good to see so many Percy people at Peterborough and made leaving the kennels at 2.30am in the morning well worthwhile.
Our next hound show is the Scottish Hound Show on Sunday 15th August followed by two local shows, Falstone on 21st August and Bellingham on 28th August.
